Two Bhutanese students receive Japanese MBBS scholarship
Two Bhutanese students, Yutso Tsezin Wangchuck and Rigzay Lhamo have been awarded a scholarship from Japan to pursue a six-year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or MBBS. The scholarship, the first of its kind is offered by the International University of Health Welfare, one of the top institutions in Japan.
On July 11, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the University and the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC) to formalize the scholarship collaboration. It was signed by Dr. Takagi Kuninori, the University Chairman and Dr. Ugyen Tshewang, the RCSC Commissioner.
During the signing ceremony, the Hon’ble Lyonpo, Jai Bir Rai shared that the collaboration highlights the deep bond and commitment between the two nations facilitating the exchange of knowledge and expertise in the healthcare sector.
“Through this MoU, we solidify our commitment to foster academic excellence, research collaboration and cultural exchange. This partnership will open doors of opportunities for our talented students to receive a world-class education, broaden their horizons and make a positive impact on society,” he added.
According to the President of the University, Suzuki Yasuhiru, the scholarship aims to serve as a bridge between the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Japanese Government contributing to the improvement of healthcare services in Bhutan.
Expressing her gratitude for the prestigious opportunity, one of the award recipients, Yutso Tsezin said that she is looking forward to pursuing her dream of studying medicine at a renowned university known for its exceptional curriculum and world-class facilities. She is hopeful that the enabling learning environment at the university will help the recipients realize their potential as skilled healthcare professionals benefiting the community and fostering future medical cooperation.
The joint effort between Bhutan and Japan represents a significant step forward in enhancing educational and healthcare exchanges for both countries.
