Ministry recognises “His Royal Highness Gyalsey Annual Mathematics Award” winners
The Ministry has honored six students on June 4 for their outstanding performance in the first-ever “His Royal Highness Gyalsey Annual Mathematics Award,” the one-hour online mathematics test held last year on November 1.
The Hon’ble Minister for the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Jai Bir Rai presented the award to the winners.
Vedanth Bhandhari from Loselling Middle Secondary School, Thimphu secured the first prize in the Middle Secondary School category which includes students of classes IX and X. Sangay Wangdi and Ugyen Zimba from The Royal Academy in Paro stood second and third, respectively.
In the Higher Secondary School category which includes students of classes 11 and 12, Prakash Sundas from Sarpang Higher Secondary School secured the first position. Rohan Rai from Ugyen Academy came second while Thukten Choida from The Royal Academy won third place.
Both category winners earned the title of ‘National Mathematics Champion’ along with merit certificates and a cash prize of Nu.150,000 each. The second and third prize winners received merit certificates and a cash prize of Nu.100,000 and Nu.75,000, respectively.
The event was also graced by the Ministry’s Acting Secretary and senior officials along with the Director from the Druk Gyalpo’s Institute.
The Ministry in collaboration with the Druk Gyalpo’s Institute launched the award last year to generate interest and encourage students to study mathematics in schools.
