EMIS capacity building training to ensure quality education data
The Ministry’s digital initiative, the Education Management Information System (EMIS) is expected to enhance the quality of education data. Towards this, the EMIS capacity building training for the Dzongkhag Education/Thromde Officers and the focal persons from 20 Dzongkhags is underway at Trashigang, Paro, Bumthang and Gelephu covering the country’s four regions. The training kick-started on May 31 and will conclude on May 4.
The training is designed to strengthen the participants’ capacity to use EMIS more efficiently. With the training, they will be better prepared to train end users and monitor the data quality in their respective Dzongkhag and Thromdes. They will further support the Ministry in managing and troubleshooting the EMIS related issues and creating awareness among the stakeholders at the Dzongkhag and Thromde levels.
The EMIS, currently version 3 is a system that provides easy access to quality and organized education data, serving as a single and reliable source of information for the Ministry. The system comprises ten modules including organization, school performance management, admission, student, dietary mess management, academic, staff, approval, reports, and projections and indicators.
Participants are being provided with presentations on the modules with a focus on hands-on sessions such as data incorporation, mapping and procedures among others. Related issues are also being discussed with feedback sharing for improvement.
A total of 107 participants (Trashigang 26, Paro 28, Bumthang 21 and Gelephu 32) are attending the training organized by the Ministry’s ICTD with 12 facilitators and fund support from the Government of India.
One of the participants at Trashigang shared that the training is comprehensive compared to the previous one she had undergone. “The training would prove helpful in addressing the EMIS related challenges at my workplace,” she added.
EMIS marks an important milestone in the long-term commitment to strengthen timely and cost-effective evidence-based decision-making in the education sector. The system simplifies the extraction of data related to students, teachers, schools, extended classrooms, ECCDs and staff.
