Adolescent friendly health service resumes at Thimphu YFISC
The Thimphu Youth-friendly Integrated Service Center – YFISC was started in April 2019 with the main objective of providing integrated services such as education, employment, counseling and health for the adolescents and youth under one roof. However, the adolescent friendly health service was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.
After a hiatus of three years, the Program Coordination Division resumed the Adolescent Friendly Health Services (AFHS) at the Thimphu YFISC today in a simple ceremony in collaboration with the AFHS, JDWNRH and the NCD, Department of Public Health.
The event was attended by officials from the youth center, NFE, Employment, Ministry of Health and youth volunteers of Harmony Youth Volunteers – HYV, a youth group attached to Thimphu YFISC.
𝐔𝐬𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐀𝐅𝐇𝐒
- Who is it for?
- Adolescents aged 10-19 years and youth between the ages of 20-24
- What are the core service packages provided by AFHS?
- Information, counseling and guidance in the following areas:
* Sexual & Reproductive Health (Adolescent development, contraception, pregnancy, mensuration, sexual orientation & gender identity etc.)
* Nutrition
* Mental Health
* Psychoactive substance use
* Injuries and all forms of violence
* Referral to relevant health professionals & agencies
Young people are encouraged to avail the above-mentioned services every THURSDAY from 2-5 pm at the Thimphu YFISC (above the old swimming pool complex).
- What are the terms of reference for AFHS?
- Discussions with the adolescent/youth are PRIVATE:
- Information is not shared with other people without consent unless the health official (s) are concerned that someone is in danger
- Records will be kept under lock and key and out of reach of unauthorized persons
- If you do not wish to reveal personal information, we will not insist on it
- A separate room or rooms with barriers will be provided during patient-provider interactions to ensure privacy
