His Royal Highness Gyaltshap Jigme Dorji Wangchuck graces golden jubilee celebration of Muenselling Institute
The country’s oldest institute for visually impaired students, the Muenselling Institute, Khaling in Trashigang celebrated its Golden Jubilee on 13 April 2023, a milestone in the history of disability and inclusive education. His Royal Highness Gyaltshap Jigme Dorji Wangchuck graced the event. Other dignitaries included the Hon’ble Education and Skills Development Lyonpo, the Education Director General, Dzongdag, local government leaders and alumni of the institute. The institute’s Founding Principal, Mr. Einar Kippenes along with other international guests were also present.
As a part of the celebration, His Royal Highness the Gyaltshab inaugurated a learning park, museum, song album and the Muensel Journal.
The institute was established in 1973 upon the command of His Royal Highness Prince Namgyal Wangchuck with Einar Kippenes from Norway as the first Principal and three students. Since its inception, the institute has played a key role in uplifting the livelihood of visually impaired students.
According to a record, there are more than 60 visually impaired graduates serving in the civil service and private sector. The institute has 17 visually impaired students from classes PP to VI at present.
