First-Ever TVET Fair showcases career opportunities in Vocational Training
The first-ever TVET Fair 2024 was held in Thimphu over the weekend offering students, youth and job seekers a unique platform to explore career opportunities and skills in the growing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector. Held from September 28-29, the event aimed to highlight TVET as a promising career option for Bhutanese youth.
The fair featured exhibitions from ten technical training institutes showcasing over 50 courses in arts and crafts, agriculture, culinary and other technical areas. Live demonstrations allowed attendees to experience the practical aspects of these courses offering them a clearer understanding of the hands-on skills involved.
Participants were also able to enroll in courses on the spot and receive firsthand information on employment, entrepreneurship opportunities, labor market trends and career guidance from technical experts.
One of the event’s key highlights was the introduction of four new diploma courses in Solar PV, Heat Ventilation and AC, Graphic Design and Electrical Engineering Technician, aligned with Humber College’s standards and curriculum. These courses designed to support the Gelephu Mindfulness City Project were developed in collaboration with Humber College of Technology and Advanced Learning through the Bhutan Education and Skills Training (BEST) Project.
The BEST project aims to support a reformed TVET system in Bhutan to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills that meet labour market needs and contribute to the country’s sustainable socio-economic development. Additionally, the project is partnering with the Wangsel Institute of the Deaf in Paro to explore skilling opportunities for their students.
