Hon’ble Lyonpo visits TTIs and Schools in Punakha, Wangdue, Trongsa, Bumthang, Mongar and Lhuentse
The Hon’ble Lyonpo for Education and Skills Development concluded an official visit to Punakha, Wangdue, Trongsa, Bumthang, Mongar and Lhuentse from September 3 to 15 September. During the tour, she visited Technical Training Institutes (TTIs) and schools interacting with both students and teachers. She was accompanied by Dasho Dzongdags and the Dzongkhag Education Officers from the respective Dzongkhags.
On September 3, the team toured the TTIs in Khuruthang, Punakha and Samthang, Wangdue followed by a visit to Sherubling Higher Secondary School (HSS) in Trongsa. The next day included visits to Tang and Ura Central Schools in Bumthang.
On September 5, Lyonpo attended the inaugural ceremony of Gyalsung at the Gyalpozhing Gyalsung Academy in Mongar, an event graced by His Royal Highness Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Later that day, Lyonpo visited Gyalpozhing HSS.
The September 6 included visits to Autsho and Tangmachu Central Schools while on September 7, Lyonpo toured Lhuentse Primary School (PS), Thimyul PS, Lhuentse HSS and Minjey Middle Secondary School (MSS). Lyonpo visited Gortshom PS, Zangkhar PS and Mongar HSS the following day. On September 9, Lyonpo visited Drametse Central School (CS), Chaskhar CS and Yadi CS. September 10 involved visits to Mongar MSS, Kidheykhar CS and Ridaza PS.
On September 11, the team visited Chali PS, Tsakaling PS and Lingmethang MSS while the itinerary on September 12 included visits to Thridangbi PS and Sengor PS. On September 13, Lyonpo visited Jakar HSS and Chumey CS followed by a visit to Taktse CS, Samcholing MSS and Tshangkha CS on September 14.
During the meeting with teachers, Lyonpo outlined the key plans of the ministry addressing major challenges such as teacher shortages, the IWP, moderation and professional development programmes.
Lyonpo underscored the importance of strong school management practices to boost efficiency, eliminate complacency and combat corruption. In addition, Lyonpo highlighted the need to enhance the physical environment of schools creating a better learning atmosphere for students. The schools were also encouraged to plant fruit trees on their campuses promoting alignment with the national “One Million Fruit Trees” project.
Key concerns related to school facilities, boarding, admissions, laboratory equipment, transportation, staff quarter, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), sports facilities and budget allocations were also discussed.
These visits allowed Lyonpo to engage in productive discussions gaining valuable insights into the challenges faced by school management. She reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to addressing the education sector’s needs through targeted support and interventions.
